Aegis Home Care started out of a need to give back. The Ayottes and Millikans are on the tail end of the Baby Boomer cohort and have seen our grandparents and parents age and develop needs that no one thought about or prepared for in any significant way. While caring for our own families, we explored hundreds of resources, had family meetings, dealt with physicians and hospitals, interacted with Home Health and Geriatric providers, purchased wheelchairs and walkers, built access ramps, installed grab bars, took turns caring for a loved one, struggled to understand copayments and insurance issues, cooked “heart healthy” meals, bought pill boxes and tried to simplify the medications basket, coordinated friend visits to relive memories...and spent hours and hours worrying about if we had done enough.

We also wondered many times how others did it without family or friends.

We have been blessed with education, skills and experience and wanted to find a way that we could meet the needs of those who didn’t have a small army of caregivers around them. We had backgrounds in Nursing, Healthcare Administration, Medical Insurance, Corporate Compliance and Law. We enjoyed and excelled in helping people with their health concerns and problems. We wanted to make a difference.

Home Care seemed like an obvious service for us to pursue. It combines personal care, medical care, home management and serving others.

It has been a wonderful choice for us. We have only just begun, but our early reactions have been unbelievable. There is such a need for this kind of care. Families are becoming more and more spread out geographically. Parents move away to retire. Kids move for new job opportunities. The support systems that families had historically are harder to keep together.

We are trying to fill those gaps. We know we are not a replacement for family but we are trying hard to be a close second.
